Looks like my honeymoon period of blogging is over :-) and I already started to enjoy my blog pause. My antennas are up again with Divya of Soundhornplease suddenly asking me about the FashBash series and here I go.
I am a great Sari lover. I always wear a sari to any Norwegian private or corporate parties and that gives me the advantage of being easily seen and heard :-). So what did the just concluded fashion week offer us as an inspiration or ready to wear in Saris.
I am starting with Masaba - who is known to design from her heart (daughter of Neena gupta and Sir Vivian Richards). Her collections are cool and I am currently a big big fan of hers as she can keep one looking trendy and elegant without an iota of bling bling :-).
Inspired by her style I enhanced my wardrobe buying a few saris during my last trip to India and I am looking forward to flaunting them around :-). (They are mostly partly pallu sarees - the pleats and the pallu are different).
This one is my favorite - lovely Green, Grey Black and Red and I have to admit that I enjoyed the tons of compliments that poured my way at a recent party :-). The photo did not do 10% justice to the vibrancy of the green .
I bought some checked mulmul (very fine cotton) curtains in Norway and then used a couple of them in this sari :-). Isn’t that cool
And here with Pink – the color of 2011
Finally from the runway to my wardrobe (BTW – I am far far away from looking anything like this :-)). This is a beautiful sari with khadi cotton in the stripes and silk in pallu with block printed Ganesha's that I am sure I will treasure for long long time.
Did u notice the pocket in the saree? – It was very useful as I could push in all the visiting cards I got :-) plus my mobile.
and some hitting the boutiques.....
I think it is cool with the alphabets in different languages, A AA E EE - I could atleast see some Telugu ones there.
Talking about alphabets I am tempted to show you this one of mine with 'OM' in Zari weaved into a beautiful Uppada silk Saree (from Andhra Pradesh)
I could come only this far today . So I will have to take this in bits and pieces and the interest it generates :-)
Oh oh, LOVE this post! Mo'please!
ReplyDeleteYou have such an eclectic collection! Loved the kadi cotton sari (not sure of the pocket? and is that ganesha print the blouse--wowsers!) and your om sari is a winner all the way.....
adopt me?
please?
PS: those bindis look a little weird IMO.
ReplyDeleteThank you GB, you made my day. Sure come and pick whatever you want :-) and you know my daughter is least interested in any of these :-(. This post was long due since my visit in Nov. The Ganesha's are in the pallu half and the blouse is a patched phulkari like the one in the picture :-).
ReplyDeletepocket in the sari? Love it...gorgeous collection. I second the bindi comment from GB.
ReplyDeleteGB, Yes a big NO NO for the Bindi's :-)and as discussed earlier they are just runway stuff and they alone know why they resort to such displays :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I reminded you about the post. Lovely lovely collection! Your pink saree is my favorite- loved the dramatic effect! Huge fan of Masaba's too and didn't notice the pocket in the sari in the runway pic- How cool is that! Love your collection and your taste :) I like the hand printed design too, but I've been eyeing the one Masaba worse as a shirt from the same fabric- I think the print looks better on a western outfit. The alphabet sari is cool, but I'd rather wear it as a dupatta. Shanthi- is there any chance I could inherit your sarees? I can vie with G over the adoption issue ;)
ReplyDeleteOh.. what a lovely post.. I like the pocket idea.. Never heard of it before.. Shanthi! You've got a gorgeous collection..
ReplyDeleteI like the last few pics.. of alphabets on saris.. I like looking at people wearing saris.. but dont think I look good in one myself.. Shall try soon.. and let you know.. :-)
Fantastic, Shanthi - you should show more and more and more; you have a lovely wardrobe of saris...
ReplyDeleteYOWZA YOWZA YOWZA!!!!!! What a lovely post. Shanthi :D do you need any more new friends? I would be happy to hop over if you just let me drool and look at your sarees. ReplyDelete@SHP - yes the credit for this post goes to you. I never thought of covering the fashion week in a post :-). Thanks for the compliments . I am on cloud nine now :-). Yes the alphabet duppata would be great , as you know they translate these colours, materials and Designs into various wearable forms - so it might be there ready waiting :-). Yes Yes you too can inherit some of my sarees. You remember Anna - the little girl in the Babies day out post - She is a contender too :-)
@Patty - Thank you. You should try a saree and you will look Gorgeous, Send me some pics when you do that :-. Isn't the pocket great !!!
@Ingela - yes I should and may be I will at some point in time. This is something close to my heart as well - so I will enjoy doing it :-)
@MY3 - Hey you are always so energetic and breathe that freshness thru' your comments. Would love to meet one day and drool over all the saree stuff :-)
@ Anpu - Great!!! another Saree lover . Oh sure I will one day and how on earth did u get a godrej almirah to Atlanta. I wore a red blouse with Green patti. With the Stripes cotton - I got the same as on the runway photo. The pink in the black is shcking pink - Bright and energetic - camera did not capture it - but u can see that behind sonam kapoor in the pic. Why do you want to patao other Hyd friends - patao me only and I can get them for you :-). Actually I got them made when I was in India last time. One was from the curtains I bought in Norway :-). yes I do pair them up with lots of chunky ethnic silver jewelery. May be I need to do a couple of posts on them as well :-)
(Oh My3 SWOONS as she reads the last line.) Sarees and silver jewelry. That's it. I think most of it are already refreshing this site every few minutes waiting for the new post to appear. Are you ready to post, Shanthi???

ReplyDeleteHugs..from another great SAREE lover :)
OMG...that is something else that we share too. I have converted bedlinen into pretty kurtas, Pati's sarees in floor cushions...etc etc
ReplyDelete"Office depot" Office Almirah is very similar to the godrej almirah...all my family in US have one, it is very reasonable, tikau, and sarees can be so well arranged in teh almirah.
You are patoed for the black-pink...and i will get the cholies during mytrip to Mumbai in sept-oct this year...You can also pair it with beads with an ethnic silver pendant...
My3 - we need a United.com...still waiting for address for the ugadi gift...:-)

ReplyDeleteLadies i am planning to get a Black Chiffon with that lovely Green 4-5 inch satin border, in my next trip... team it with the same green brocade sleeveless blouse...let me know if anyone is interested...
